My previous employment. The mission at Silver Peak is to break into a young SD-WAN market and establish ourselves as the leader.
The web dev manager position at Silver Peak was both strategic and tactical. I handled all daily operations for silver-peak.com and provide solutions on how the company will represent itself on the web.
Additionally, I attend to new website features which include requirement gathering, planning, wire-framing, graphic design reviews, coding new website sections, quality assurance, and project rollout.
Challenges:
- Take control of a site that had been bounced around from one agency to another over a period of ten years. The site suffered from code bloat.
- Site download speed was in the 20-second range
- The look and feel was fractured. It looks as if half the site had been coded independently.
- The site was hosted on AWS and required IT staff to help out with backend issues like backups.
Value Added:
- We moved the site over to Pantheon where backend functions got reduced to a simple button click.
- In addition to moving the site to Pantheon, we did early adoption of the CDN services. Ultimately we got site download time to 1.5 seconds.
- I introduced the site to custom icon fonts. Which was a great way to improve site speed, minimize production time, increase artwork fidelity on high-definition screens, and solidify our icon branding.
- I performed a code audit to clean up derelict code and improve download times.
