As a front-end developer for MobileIron.com, my responsibilities included managing the user interface layer and making sure it was first in class.
I actively managed download times, cross-browser compatibility, and feature development.
Challenges:
- The marketing site ownership had been bounced around from contractor to contractor for years. Code was fractured, Undocumented, full of errors, and full of ‘Left Behind’ code.
- The Marketing site had close to a 30 second download time.
- The site was built on AWS and required that we tie up IT personnel to help with DevOps tasks.
- The site had around 1500 pages that included French, Japanese, German, and Chinese versions.
- The site was seen as a nightmare to work inside of and only the most technical savvy dared to work in it to add daily content.
Value Added:
- I performed a code/feature audit to figure out which problems were the greatest offenders and which problems were most likely to blowback on us.
- We moved the site over to Pantheon to help us deal with the DevOps tasks that were eating up our time.
- Converted the mobile frameworks from an adaptive layout to a fluid and responsive design.
- Upgraded the Blog look and feel
- Built out permissions and roles so that coworkers could participate in the daily content updates.
- Reduced download times down into single digits
